You may think that Dollar Tree is reserved for inexpensive stocking stuffers and discount cleaning supplies, but I’m here to open you up to a whole new world…get ready to fall in love!

With over 15,000 locations in over 48 states, it’s likely there’s a DT in your own backyard. When you are planning an event (no matter the size), hitting up this gem of an establishment can mean the difference of hundreds of dollars saved on your bottom line. Well yes, wrapping paper and fake flowers are in fact an option, that’s not what I’m talking about today.

Here’s how to utilize Dollar Tree to make the most out of your decor budget, and find some serious creative inspiration in an unlikely place…

Balloons

The cost of balloons is no joke and because of recent shortages,  supplies and helium are limited.

I love a good balloon garland, arch, or display, and leave this to the experts – I work with some fabulous balloon designers who never fail to deliver showstopping designs. When it comes to fillers, however, I turn to my favorite dollar store to help.

Number balloons, latex balloons in a huge color assortment, ribbons, and the absolute best….dollar helium balloons. That’s right, let that sink in for a sec…DOLLAR HELIUM BALLOONS!

In a world where one basic helium-filled balloon can run you almost $4.00, this is a nice surprise, to say the least.

Before an event, I like to do a Dollar Store sweep to check out what helium balloons they have on display, and if I can utilize them in my design. Lucky to find some camo-colored stars for a paintball-themed party I recently threw. Score!

Oh, The Crafts!

Paint sets, wooden cutouts, popsicle sticks, yarn, markers, stickers, and more…Dollar Tree is a treasure chest of affordable and ADORABLE crafting supplies.

In almost every single children’s party I throw, I have a crafting area or activity. A ready-to-go craft is a great way to start a party and give the kids something to do while you’re greeting guests. It’s also a calming and engaging activity that almost every kiddo seems to enjoy.

If you’re looking for an easy and fun craft idea that takes little to no work, look for pre-packaged kits that include all of the necessary supplies to create something awesome. They have so many in various themes. You’re almost sure to find something fun and creative.

Below is a crafting setup I made for a “creepy, crawly” themed party. Paint brushes, pallets, glitter, stickers, and decorative supplies were all Dollar Tree.

Plates, napkins, serving dishes, and more…

There are great options for both disposable and reusable serving options at Dollar Tree. Depending on what you’re looking for, it could be a great place to start your search.

Some essentials that you can find for a steal…

  • Cake serving spatula
  • Punch serving spoon
  • Reusable serving trays and bowls
  • Mason jars
  • Warming trays to store and transport food- awesome for leftovers!
  • Chargers

Frames and signs

Another huge cost saver- picture frames! The price of frames is definitely up there and if you’re throwing an event, you could find yourself needing several.

Whether you’re setting up signage for a focal table, displaying a menu, or pictures of the guest-of-honor, frames are essential. Dollar Tree has an entire section of its store dedicated to frames and signs. I love them for table accents and smaller signs (wine lists for example).

In addition to some very cute frames, they also have a variety of posters and foam boards if you’re looking to DIY- check out my little creation below I made using a DT foam board.

Creative Inspiration

I don’t always find something. There are definitely times where I go up and down the aisles of Dollar Tree only to find myself leaving empty-handed.

There are those times though, where I find a piece that feels like it was made just for my event. Times where I go in with nothing but an open mind and find myself struck with inspiration and ideas.

Whether you find a hidden gem, or just leave with some affordable essentials, it’s definitely worth a look!

Do you love Dollar Tree as much as I do? What are your favorite finds for events? I would love to hear about DIY creations that you make for a party featuring your DT finds.

Happy party shopping, friends.

Cheers! xx
